Does art alternatives make good quality watercolor pans?
I’m thinking about buying the art alternatives art tin set that comes with 18 half pans and a paintbrush. I would go for better quality but I’m short on money.
Not really, AA products are inconsistent made in China or Viet Nam I don’t find them reliable. For half pans try Yarka (Russian) Prang (German?) or Sakura or Niji (Japan) Sakura makes a great travel set with a water brush for about $20.00. Tubes are probably a better choice since half pan refills can be hard to find, You can squeeze paint into a watercolor pallet (small compartmented tray) and let them dry, re-wet as necessary. Grumbacher (USA) is also a good brand for tubes. My favorite for this is Holbein (Japan) a bit expensive but if you start out with just primary and secondary colors you can learn to blend and understand what colors really are!
Have fun.
