When polishing a piece of pottery, you are going in one direction or two?
I'm honing a mask made of clay with a smooth stone, but I do not know if I just have to go up and down or up and down then side to side. I have to do it soon before the piece is too hard. Any suggestions?
Which are essentially skim the surface of the clay until smooth and glossy finish, any direction should work, provided they are compatible with pressure and the object you are using has no edges that will "catch". My favorite was using the bottom of a spoon is curved sides to make a very versatile tool.
