have you seen a free standing planter box?
I’d like to build one and am searching on line for ideas, building plans, tips and examples. Can you help me? I’d like to grow vegetables in one so i don’t have to deal with my clay soil or bad knees.
I assume because of your comment about bad knees that you want to build something like a table that would contain soil so that you don’t have to get down on your knees to tend the plants. There are a couple of ways that you can go to do this.
You could make simple “shelves” using concrete blocks and 2×4′s or 2×6′s and place containers on them at a height that is convenient to you. This plan has the advantage of being able to move the plants as necessary.
The other way is to build a table with sides so that it can contain 6-8 inches of soil. You would want to build this out of 2x lumber because the weight of the soil when wet and full of plants will be substantial. Leave 1/8 to 1/4 inch gaps between the table top boards for drainage. You can build them to whatever width you want. I would limit the length between legs to 4-6 feet also because of the weight factor. Build the table to whatever height that is comfortable for you.
