The Messenger of coconut, an original invitation Hawaiian Luau
Part of the fun when one party is sending out invitations and the anticipation of a great response. You often find the most creative and interactive than the invitation to the guests will be thrilled. A well planned and thoughtful invitation tells the guests who are putting together an equally well thought out to match the parts and you really want to be there.
There are many interesting ways invite a Hawaiian, but it is here that I think is quite original, I call it "The Messenger of coconut." Now this takes a little effort, and depending on where you live may also be a bit expensive but are definitely worth the extra effort if you want to impress your guests on the new wave in Hawaii will be.
The idea is to deliver a set of coconut shells to your guests to be opened to reveal the invitation hidden inside, the fun is opening the coconut, which can be a challenge if you do not know how.
You will need:
- As the coconut that you have invited
- Colored paper for the invitation
- Cardboard or paper instructions
- Raffia or twine
- A screwdriver, corkscrew or a hammer and a nail
- Laminator if possible
First we make the invitation, keep it simple, like a handwritten note, or paper printed with a cold source. Scroll giving a very nice touch too.
Once created the invitation, if you have a laminating machine and laminating by hand then this is going to protect, but if not just roll the invitation into a tight roll and wrap in plastic ready to be inserted into the fresh coconut.
Usually, a coconut is opened simply by giving a strong blow to the exact spot on the right moment in the coconut, it just falls apart into two almost perfect halves. However, the purpose of this exercise we will need to drain the coconut water for the first time as to be inserted in the coconut invitation and return it unopened.
To drain the water it takes to open one of the eyes, point three are at one end of coconut. You can do this using a hammer and a nail cleaner, a screwdriver or a corkscrew. Ensure that one of the eyes opened enough to insert the roll of the invitation.
Now put the coconut on a glass and allow the water to drain, to drain faster you can make a hole in the tail end as well. Now let the children drink the water, is delicious and good for you, and it's nice when chilled. When satisfied that the coconut has run long enough you can insert the invitation.
Now comes the hard part, open coco:
Now, being married to a Pacific island gives me the advantage of knowing the secrets of opening a coconut with the shipment of shell fragments flying in all directions, but this remains a work for adults is fine.
Your guests will need instructions to open the crack coconut, after all, opening a coconut when I do not know how it can be difficult, so their instructions could read like this:
I am the Messenger of coconut! I have two eyes, a mouth and a tail, I have a message inside … Open up!
Hold me in your hand with the thumb in the mouth and my tail off the fingertips … find me around to the back, an obvious line. Now give me a good blow right back with a hammer and opens to reveal my post you!
Attach the note to the coconut with a piece of string or raffia and leave their doors. Funny eh!
