What is the meaning and / or the use of Christian-themed candles in Mexico / Latin culture?
Clearly they are a part of the relationship with Christ that is a major part of the lives of some people in the Latino community. But why candles? Why, in particular, the image found in many of them? Is there a specific meaning of this symbol or particular, this type of candle? Please, please, no answers and no answers racist anti-immigration. This is a question about religion, not politics.
My husband is Hispanic and Catholic and light a candle in memory of his father or other loved ones when we go to the memorial. I think some have pictures of the patron saints of them and can be used in an appeal / prayer to the saint in particular. Others have pictures of Our Lady of Guadalupe or Jesus (more self-explanatory).
