Birds featured prominently in the design of Maya world. Near the Valley of Copan, for example, people named their most sacred "Macaw Mountain." One month of the year, "Muan" indicated by the sign of the head of a bird. And the founder of a dynasty of kings was named Yax-Kuk-Mo, which means "Blue-quetzal-limpet." (The quetzal is a bird scarlet and gold, with tail feathers of two meters long). In the form of pictograms, the king is often the head of a bird.) On the Mayan compass, each direction is associated with a particular god, trees and birds. In the center of the compass is the World Tree, at the top of which sits the Celestial Bird. Tree World is a common motif in Mayan art. Its branches hold the sky symbolically, and their roots extend down to hell. However, in sizes shown as a vertical column with a horizontal crossbar modest (something like the Christian cross). The blue bird on top is nicely decorated. Its tail is very long and feathers curl at the end. The wings are expensive. The peak is monstrously long and has a woven tape. On his head is an elaborate headdress. This bird is said to represent the forces of nature chaotic.
