how to make pottery shiny without glaze?
i haven’t really gotten into glaze but i was wondering if there is any way to make pottery shiny without glaze. i make my own pots and stuff so i could do anything before or after its fired.
You could use terra sigillata on your pots. This is a fine colloidal slip that is put on pots when they are bone dry and when dry, burnished to a satiny sheen. Pots are then bisque fired and usually pit fired. Afterwards some artists will also put a layer of butchers wax on them for more gloss.
Another way is to use cold applications such as different types of paints, shoe polish, gold or silver leafs, etc. These methods can be used on bisque fired pieces that won’t be fired again.
Good luck with your experimentation and have fun.
