How I can use the straight red clay soil of the earth to make pots bra? Dig it, is the tension, what next?
Teach second grade. I have been teaching about the different types of soil. We have a natural abundance of red clay areas of our school. I want to teach children clay pots to pinch. Am I putting on my head, or as simple as I hope to be?
Not so bad, you must first determine the adequacy of clays. Conduct a "jar test" to determine the suitability of the soil. Fill a jar (or plastic bottle – Make sure it's transparent) to half with the soil sample. Fill the rest of the way with water. Shake vigorously for one minute, then let stand overnight. The next day, the soil have settled in different bands. The bottom of the jar have the larger materials – sand and small pebbles – with smaller and smaller particles the size of the bands at the top. The upper band was the clay or silt. Ideally, the three bands will be approximately the same size. If the sample is over third of sand (bottom layer), no need to add sand to clay. If it is a well balanced proportion of clay soil and sand from the pot to hold together very well, if one of the three elements is missing try adding a little of that element to the mix of clay.
