What are some cool ideas for a useful metal sculpture?
I am taking a welding class that teaches metal sculpting. I need to come up with a project. I have some ideas about a theme, but I am trying to think of what I can incorporate them in to. I would like to put the ideas into something useful like a candle holder, or a planter, or anything that is functional. This is my first art class since I was about 13, and I’m in college now…it’s a beginning class.

Wall hung or floor standing coat rack with the hooks and designs elements made by welding – branches, leaves, flowers, birds
Center piece that will hold a glass bowl/glass vase of some standard size concealed in the metal but also has mounts for holding several candles in a rough arrangement.
