Does anyone know anything about pottery of Mata Ortiz, Talavera Rite?
I have a 6 "oalla, black on black with two geckos raised on the edge. Is in perfect condition and is signed Rito Talavera Quezada 2-May 1982. I've done several searches online and can not find much except a reference to the Rite of be a master potter Quezada Village. Does anyone have strong recommendations again: this piece. I will send pictures to anyone who has a scope. Thanks.
Rito Talavera is the husband of Lydia Quezada and who appears in a book entitled "The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz." Lydia Quezada is the younger sister of Juan Quezada, who is known as the master of the family. Rite developed its own style of black on black finish and often decorate their pieces with lizards. Without doubt, would love to see a photo of your pot!
